About Scryla

Story planning that stays flexible.

Scryla is a story-planning tool built to help writers see the full shape of their story without locking them into a single way of working.

It brings together structure, flexibility, and clarity in one place, so you can plan confidently while leaving room for discovery.

Use Scryla anywhere: it runs in your browser, or you can also install it on desktop, phone, or tablet (no app store required) so it opens like an app and you can pick up your work wherever you are. Who said authors have to be chained to their desks?

One place for your entire story

Planning a novel often means juggling multiple tools: outlines in one app, notes in another, characters somewhere else, and timelines that only exist in your head.

Scryla brings those pieces together.

Scryla's character grid makes it easy to locate and edit your cast
  • Organise chapters and scenes visually
  • Track story beats using your preferred framework (or none at all)
  • Manage characters, notes, research, and loose ideas alongside the plot
  • See how everything connects as the story evolves

It's designed to reduce friction, not add more process.

Structured, but never rigid

Scryla supports structure without enforcing it.

You can use established story models, mix and match approaches, or ignore formal frameworks entirely. Rearrange chapters, rewrite scenes, or rethink the story's direction without breaking your plan.

The tool adapts to your workflow, not the other way around.

Who Scryla is for

Built for writers who think in structure.

Scryla is built for writers who want to think clearly about their story before (and while) they write it. If structure helps you create better work, Scryla is designed to support how you already think.

The Planner

“I like to know where the story is going.”

You sketch chapters, outline scenes, or work from a beat sheet before drafting. Scryla gives you a clear, flexible structure to map your story without locking it in too early.

The Visual Thinker

“I need to see the story to understand it.”

Boards, cards, timelines, and overviews help you reason about narrative flow. Scryla makes relationships between chapters, scenes, and ideas visible at a glance.

The Long-Form Writer

“This project is bigger than a single document.”

You're working on a novel or series with moving parts, from characters to subplots to timelines. Scryla keeps everything connected as the story grows in complexity.

The Flexible Outliner

“I use structure, but I don't follow one method.”

You mix frameworks, adapt as you go, or invent your own approach entirely. Scryla supports structure as a tool not a rule, so your process can evolve with the story.

A focused tool that's built to last

Scryla is developed carefully, with an emphasis on stability, usability, and long-term support rather than chasing trends. The goal is a tool that grows alongside your work.

It was created by Peter Gillespie-Merrigan, an author with a background in digital tech who, like many others, could never find a plotting tool that Just Worked™. Scryla was the result of much hair-pulling (as you can tell!). Peter writes under multiple pseudonyms.
